Mephisto fut jadis un très grand démon, l'un des plus grands même. Mais une affaire malheureuse le fit tomber en disgrace auprès de Lucifer, l'affaire d'un certain dénommé Faust. Pour le punir de sa trahison, Lucifer l'envoya dans ce pays damné à mi chemin entre le monde des morts et celui des vivants, où personne ne va de son plein grès, et d'où personne ne peut revenir. Et pour une raison inconnue, Lucifer changea son ancien bras droit en femme, et le condamna à jouer le metteur en scène au Théâtre des damnés.
